New Contract FAQs

We have developed some common questions and answers based on the employment contract for a permanent employee at Casa Services Limited

What is an employment contract?

An employment contract is a legally binding agreement between an employer and an employee that outlines the terms and conditions of employment.

Why are we receiving new contracts?

Employment contracts are updated regularly to adapt to changes in law, workplace policies and working conditions.

Why do I need to sign the new employment contract?

Signing the contract ensures that both the employer and employee understand their rights, responsibilities, and expectations.

What is changing generally?

Employee Obligations

The new contract states you must comply with all polices and lawful directions of Casa. It also states you must notify Casa of other jobs but adds that you cannot work for competitors without permission.

General Provisions

The new contract states that this contract overrides all past agreements, including any arrangements and understandings. The old contract stated the same but excluded leave entitlements for permanent employees.

Working Hours

The old contract showed the hours as Monday to Friday (8.00am - 5.00pm). The new contract mentions standard Casa business hours but does not list specific times.

What is changing for permanent contracts?

Separation rules have been made clearer.

The new contract offers clearer guidance on what constitutes serious misconduct, such as behaviours that may create safety concerns or impact Casa’s reputation. This helps ensure everyone understands expectations and how we work together to maintain a positive and safe environment.

Notice periods have been updated.

The old contract does not mention a notice period, but the new contract states a permanent employee must give 4 weeks written notice to resign.

What is changing for casual contracts?

Notice Requirements

The previous contract noted that casual employment could be ended without notice or payout, which aligns with standard practice for casual roles. The new contract maintains this approach but now also references the Fair Work Act and relevant Awards, which outline the legal minimum notice requirements for casual employees.

We have updated some of our internal policies!

Training and Development

As a Casa employee, you must attend all mandatory required training sessions specific to your role and listed in the Annual Training Plan. If you do not meet these conditions, Casa can place staff on a temporary stand down from employment until all conditions are met.

First Aid in the Workplace

New front-line employees at Casa must pay for their own first aid certificate before they start working. Casa will cover the cost of any refresher courses needed later. If employees let their first aid certificate expire and do not attend the refresher course, Casa can place staff on a temporary stand down from employment until all conditions are met.

Safeguards

The goal of this policy is to make the workplace safer and more secure by using cameras and emergency alarms, while also following privacy laws. This means:

  • CCTV cameras will watch common areas.
  • Dash cameras will record when company vehicles are used.
  • Emergency alarms will help keep track of staff in SIL locations.

This policy also includes changes to mobile phone usage in the workplace.
