Casa Services now offers Support Coordination Services! Meet our support coordinator Smit Patel🎉 With more than six years of experience in the disability and community services sector, Smit is passionate about helping people live independently, achieve their goals, and improve their quality of life. Starting his career as a Disability Support Worker, Smit has progressed through leadership and coordination roles, building extensive experience across a variety of support settings. One of the most rewarding chapters of his career was with the Northern Territory Department of Health's Forensic Disability Unit, where he advanced from Disability Support Worker to Shift Supervisor and later Service Coordinator. Working alongside people with complex needs strengthened his belief in the power of patience, trust, consistency, and person-centred support. Today, as a Client Services Coordinator with Casa Services, Smit works closely with participants, families, support workers, allied health professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure individuals receive high-quality support tailored to their goals, choices, and aspirations. He is passionate about empowering people to make their own decisions, build confidence, and increase their independence. Smit holds a Diploma of Community Services (Case Management), a Certificate IV in Disability, and a Master of Business Administration. He believes that while qualifications are important, the greatest lessons have come from the people he has supported throughout his career. Known for being compassionate, reliable, and approachable, Smit takes the time to listen, build meaningful relationships, and ensure every person feels valued, respected, and heard. Outside of work, he enjoys photography and community events, embracing opportunities to connect with people and celebrate the unique stories that make us all different. ✨ His goal is simple: to help people feel confident, valued, and empowered to live the life they choose.

After a month off court with all the flash floods, mixed netball was back on and so was our team! 2 games done, 1 tie and a close loss. Next Monday, we go again - lesssgooo!!!

Happy International Day of People with Disability! Today we celebrate and honour the incredible strength, diversity, and achievements of our wonderful clients. This day is a reminder of the value of inclusion, empowerment, and community — and we are proud to walk alongside each person we support. We would also like to give a special acknowledgement to Graham for his outstanding speech at the Mayoral Awards today. His confidence, courage, and powerful words truly reflected the spirit of this day. It was inspiring to see him represent our community with such pride, and it was wonderful to be out in the community celebrating together. We are grateful for every opportunity to advocate, connect, and champion the voices of people with disability. Here’s to continuing the journey toward a more inclusive and supportive future for all.

It’s THROWBACK TUESDAY with the CASA FAM! With countdown to the festive season, our Casa family gathered around the Christmas tree - in person and online 🤣 to unwrap their presents from their Secret Santa. Such a beautiful moment to acknowledge the hard yakka of this amazing team… And it’s only the beginning! ✨

✨ Last week, Debra and Shay attended the Australasian Society of Intellectual Disability’s 2025 Conference in Sydney. Shay presented Casa’s work on “Reducing Chemical Restraints: Navigating the Medical Maze to Drive Real Change in Client Care”, sharing case studies involving Indigenous clients. Shay was joined by Clare Scott from Veritable, who highlighted the crucial role of behaviour support strategies and staff training in ensuring staff feel confident and safe during medication changes. This collaboration between Casa and Veritable is built on curiosity, clinical insight, and a shared commitment to improving quality of life. 👏 The methods and outcomes were very well received by practitioners, service providers, medical professionals, and nurses from across Australia and New Zealand. A heartfelt thank you to the clients’ support teams and dedicated staff who continue to champion meaningful change.

🌟 Happy Tuesday Everyone ! This morning, we’re thrilled to introduce another amazing member of the Casa family — Janet Wright, our Client Services Manager! Janet joined Casa in August and has already made a remarkable impact with her leadership, compassion, and dedication to supporting both our clients and team. Originally from Maryland in the United States, she first arrived in Alice Springs in 1996 on a work visa. Her early work in accounting and forensic audits in remote communities led to a position with MHACA, where she discovered a passion for client services since then, she has built an impressive career, including serving as CEO in both disability and legal advocacy organisations, always with a focus on improving the lives of others. After several years in South Australia and Darwin, she returned to Alice Springs in February 2025. She shares that what she values most about the community is its warmth, friendliness, and the unique interconnectedness that makes this region so special. She looks forward to building strong relationships and expanding services that make a meaningful impact for people with disabilities. Outside of work, she lives on a small farm where she cares for two goats, thirty rescued birds, two dogs, a horse, a duck, and several chickens. A creative at heart, she enjoys painting, sewing, building projects, and restoring her 1972 Reno bus. She is also a dedicated girl guide leader and is known for her thoughtful gestures, such as recently surprising a friend with a replacement swing. She values personal, one-on-one connections with colleagues and clients and is guided by a strong commitment to a person-centred approach in her work. We’re so excited to have Janet on board and can’t wait to see the continued difference she’ll make here at Casa!

Meet Casa's CEO - Debra Gray Debra has been with us since the 1st of July 2025. She is an accomplished health and government leader with extensive experience in strategic service delivery, clinical governance, and emergency response across Central Australia. With senior roles in both NT Health and the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, she brings deep insight into the region’s unique challenges and strengths. A Registered Nurse with a Master’s in Leadership, Debra has held key positions including Regional Director - Chief Minister and Cabinet, NT Health; Director Innovation and Response, General Manager – Pandemic Coordinator, and Director of Nursing. As a dedicated foster carer and active member of the community, Debra is deeply committed to creating services that are welcoming, inclusive, and empowering for all. Proudly calling Alice Springs home, she brings a genuine understanding of the Territory and a steady, people-focused leadership style that will guide Casa with strength and continuity in a complex and ever-changing environment. Since joining Casa, Debra has already made a significant impact, strengthening our policies and processes, taking the time to connect with our team through one on one conversations, and welcoming several talented new members to our corporate team. Her hands on leadership and genuine care for people are helping shape a positive and forward thinking workplace culture. We’re excited about what’s ahead for Casa under Debra’s leadership.
